FAQs

Campers should bring the following (PLEASE LABEL ALL items in case they get misplaced throughout the day):

  • a cold water bottle or sports drink (consider an extra so they have plenty to drink)
  • a cooling towel (if they have one)
  • a small snack
  • sunscreen (apply before arrival and pack for re-application)
  • a long-sleeve shirt (or light sweatshirt), if it’s on the chillier side
  • a hat (if sunny)

Campers should wear comfortable running sneakers, shorts, and a tee-shirt or tank top with their hair pulled back. We also suggest packing a long-sleeve shirt in case it gets breezy and a hat if it’s sunny.

Camp is held rain or shine. If it’s light drizzle, we will stay outside. However, if the weather worsens, we will walk the campers to the high school and stay indoors until the weather improves or camp ends.

Campers will receive 1-2 ice pops each day. However, we recommend they bring their own snacks if they need something more substantial.

Drop off is between 8:30am – 8:40am.

Campers can be dropped off in the back parking lot of River Dell High School (near the athletic fields and lower gym).  There is a set of stairs and ramp leading into the new gym where you can drop your child off – Kiss and Go style.  If you prefer to walk your child to the registration table at the door, then you may park your car.  Counselors will supervise the campers in the new gym/classrooms until its time to walk down to the track at 8:45am

No problem! If you’re dropping off your child after 8:45 am, please have them walk to the turf and look for Michele Carcich (or another counselor) to help them find the right group.

Pick up is at 12pm.

You can walk down to the track and pick up your child outside the concession stand. All groups end up in that area once the last station ends for the day. If you get there early, feel free to walk around and see your child in action!

If your child will be walking home, or heading to another camp, or meeting you in the parking lot or up at the high school, just please inform Michele Carcich and your child’s counselor in advance!

The first two days (Monday and Tuesday) will focus on learning and practicing techniques for various events, baton passes, starts, and speed and agility drills.

The second two days (Wednesday and Thursday) will be dedicated to competition, where campers will put their skills to the test in the events they practiced earlier in the week (jumps, throws, races, etc.). Individual results will be emailed after camp.

Campers will learn the world’s most popular sport through demonstrations, small group instruction, and friendly competition. They will learn proper warm-up, stretching, and cool-down techniques, as well as the high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, javelin, hurdles, sprints, and relay races. Campers will also improve speed, coordination, and endurance, benefiting their performance in other sports.

Tee-shirts will be handed out (according to the size you selected at registration) on Wednesday.  Please have your camper wear this to camp on Thursday.
